Review: Bonds of Flesh and Ice by Veronica Chastain

I love this series!

First off, this is the second book in a series, and it cannot be read as a standalone. So make sure to read book 1 first!

Lily and Troy continue on their quest to save Lily’s grandmother. Lily is fighting her attraction to Troy, because he is a Kelpie fae, and the fae really can’t be trusted. Or can they?

Although it’s fantasy, it’s easy to read and you won’t struggle with world building or names because it’s so well done.

The book does end on a cliffhanger, and I can’t wait to read book 3!

Review: Bonds of Silver and Mist by Veronica Chastain

So I read the first edition of this series. While I normally wouldn’t do a re-read, I really loved the first edition so I was curious. And honestly, I loved this book too.

When you can read a fantasy novel without struggling with names, imagery, myths, etc, it’s sooooo enjoyable, and that’s exactly how Chastain writes. You can easily pick up this book, start reading, and just get lost in the story.

Lily’s grandmother goes missing when she’s there visiting, and all of a sudden the fae and other supernatural beings become visible to Lily, and one, Troy, helps Lily try and find her grandmother.

It is Lily’s first time dealing with fae though, and she definitely makes some mistakes along the way. Which just makes the book that much more interesting.

So if you like fantasy, and the fae, give Bonds of Silver and Mist a read!

Review: The Three Devils: And Other Stories by William Luvaas

I love apocalyptic movies, stories, and books, and The Three Devils and Other Stories by William Luvaas hit the spot. What happens when a virus comes and kills most of humanity? The story, The Three Devils, is the longest short story in the book, and the first. It follows a few neighbors and how they are getting by after a major pandemic. I could ‘see’ the story so well in my mind, Luvaas is a terrific writer.

While these stories are about the possible end of humankind as we know it, they weren’t without hope. Which I appreciated. One of my favorite quotes was,

“When the future becomes an inverted question mark, it’s hard to sustain hope. But hard to go on without it.”

And isn’t that the truth?

So if you’re an apocalyptic fan like me, read this imaginative, but not so far-fetched from reality, book today!

Book Review: Christmas in Angel Harbor by Jeannie Moon

Besides the beautiful cover, this is really a great story about two middle-aged adults who find love with each other. Jane and Dan were once friends in their small town when they were young. But as life is, Dan moved on and out of town and became a hugely successful best selling author. And Jane took over her family’s bookstore and stayed put in town, due to a death in the family.

Something happens to drive Dan back to town to visit his family, and he ventures to his old hangout, the bookstore. Jane and Dan reconnect and, well, that’s all I’ll say on the plot. 🙂

I really enjoyed this book. I love a strong independent heroine, which Jane is. And I appreciate how they both know what they want, and can communicate to each other. It really is refreshing to read about a middle aged couple finding love too.

So if you’re looking for a cozy small town read, definitely give this a try!

Book Review: Soul of the Storm by Jean M. Grant

It’s been five years since the death of her sister, and Charlotte is going with her friend and her friend’s husband on a vacation in Vermont. Despite her friends efforts, Charlotte is still deep in her grief. However, on vacation she meets the man of many jobs, Matiu, and he seems to awaken something in Charlotte. With his help, she slowly begins to start enjoying life again.

This was a quick read, and never had a dull moment. I really felt for Charlotte and the loss of her sister. I appreciated her friend Veronica, and how she tried her best to include Charlotte. Matiu, who is from New Zealand and only working in Vermont temporarily, has his own issues, but when he meets Charlotte, he knows she is special.

A quick read with great characters.
