Review: Hellfire and Handbaskets by Kathryn Hills

This is the second book in the A Time Traveler’s Journey series, but it CAN be read as a standalone. This book was almost 300 pages but it just flew by because it was so good. I read before bed, and every night, practically the second I open the book to start reading, I immediately was immersed in the story.

Amelia Pennington is a med student from the late 1800’s. While under attack, she travels to current time and meets Dr. Rick Hauser at his job in the ER. They have an instant connection and attraction to each other.

I really enjoyed how even though Amelia is from the past, she is definitely not helpless. She can take care of herself. I really enjoyed this story, each page had me eagerly turning to the next.

Review: Damselfly Inn by Cameron D. Garriepy

This was a book that I bought because I really liked the cover. Something about it and the Victorian house drew me in. This is a story about Nan Grady, a new to town bed and breakfast owner in Vermont. A storm makes a branch go through her inn’s roof, and local neighbor, Joss, is there to help with repairs.

The story really was well done. Neither Nan or Joss were looking for love, but sometimes that’s exactly when two people find each other. I really appreciated how Nan could take care of herself, and she was so self sufficient. I appreciate that in a heroine. There were also some wonderful side characters, friends and neighbors, as well.

Contemporary romance fans will love this book!

Book Review: Eight Nights at Sea by Britt DeLaney

Wow! This is my first book by Britt DeLaney and I really enjoyed it. I’m trying to read all my summery and sea adventure books quick before the fall gets here. DeLaney has talent; she has the ability to transport you to the story she laid out immediately when reading. I loved all the surprises along the way of Rina and Zephyr’s journey. I really appreciate the fact that I had no idea where the story was going and what was going to happen either. The book will keep you entertained and on your toes. So if you like sea-faring, fantasy romance, give this one a try!

Book Review: Within a Captain’s Soul by Lisa A. Olech

A pirate romance like no other!

Captain William Quinn is shipwrecked on the island of one of the most powerful and dangerous pirates, Captain Jian Jun. But why is Will silent and not speaking or reacting to sound? Jun soon realizes that Will is deaf and mute and figures out a way to communicate with him. While Will is desperately searching for word of any of his surviving crew, Jun and her crew are trying to figure out if Will is who he says he is; is he an enemy spy?

This is my first read by this author, and a great read it was! You’ll have no trouble imagining the story. The author has a true gift with words. I’m excited to read the previous book in the series!

Book Review: Will Rise from Ashes by Jean M. Grant

AJ Sinclair and her oldest son Will are home awaiting her brother and her youngest son’s arrival when suddenly a volcano erupts near her brother’s location across the country causing communication to go down. AJ makes the decision to venture cross country with her son Will, who has autism, to find her youngest son and brother, all while hoping that they’re ok and nothing has happened to them.

I loved this book!!! I love a good disaster story, and it was sooo good. It was an adventure that I didn’t want to end! There were a few chapters from Will’s point of view that I thought were great as well, as they give insight on what it might be like to be a child who has autism and how their brain might process things.

There is so much to the story. To drive cross country while the world starts to panic, and you still have to take care of a child, and you lost your husband not long ago etc etc etc. It was just so much going on but that’s what made it so good!!! I didn’t want this book to end.

And to top all that, it has romance! Definitely give this book a read, you won’t be disappointed.
