Author Bio

Writing is ‘second nature’ to me.  It is and always has been easy for me to slide into those ‘other worlds’ of enchantment, a character’s mind, or a story that takes me on an Roshandra March - Gothic Gatesadventure into the realms of other dimensions.
I am deeply romantic and so much of my writing style opens the reader to the Eros Psyche myths and cosmic love.   The writing just FLOWS.
I also work with ‘energy, healing as a reiki master, a ‘seer’ and counselor for others and guide for spiritual paths and Ascension paradigm.’   I love to travel, love Mt.Shasta, adore Paris, France and my favorite sport is Dressage riding.   I ride an English Shire horse which is one of the sweetest breeds and a warrior horse of knights.  Also a very romantic horse that is huge and standards of strength in motion.
Some of my additional work takes me into haunted homes, historical estates and real estate.  I have done blogs for real estate regarding energy and feng shui which is also a business i have.  Clearly energy and spirit is part of my life and my way i Write.

Beautiful Failure Review & Giveaway

Title: Beautiful Failure
Author: Mariah Cole
Genre: New Adult
Publication Date: December 17, 2013

If you’re looking for a heartwarming story about a girl who falls deeply in love with a troubled boy who changes her life–a sob story with pretty metaphors and a million ways that’ll tell you how “broken” she is, STOP. Don’t read another word of this.

I’m not that type of girl.

My name is Emerald Anderson and I’m not going to bulls**t you: I flunked out of college after my sophomore year, I’ve been fired from every job I’ve ever taken, and I’ve never had a fully functioning relationship in my life.

I wish I could say that I had a cheerleader in my corner, someone who says, “No, Emerald–You’re great and you are good at something!” but I don’t. My grandparents are completely oblivious to my life, and my mother’s dying words to me were “You’re going to end up just like me one day. A beautiful nothing.”

She was right.

As I decide to start my life over and take two jobs that will forever change me–one from the inside, and one from the outside, I keep my mother’s words close to my heart so I can keep the sexy and mysterious Carter Black away.

He’s the first man who’s ever pursued me, the first man who seems bent on finding out why I am the way I am, but he’s wasting his time.

I’m not broken. I don’t need to be fixed. I’m perfectly fine being a beautiful failure…

Were you intrigued by the synopsis?  I sure was.  I thought, finally, a book that isn’t about a girl wanting to be rescued or even getting rescued.  And that’s part of what made this book so good.

Emerald is what she is, who she is, and she isn’t sorry for it.  Her mom did a royal job of screwing her up though.  I usually hate blaming the parents, but I feel that it really was her mom’s fault.  Not only was her mom a prostitute, but also an alcoholic.  A habit that she shared and encouraged with Emerald at way too young an age.  Anyways, her mom commits suicide (I’m not giving anything away, this happens right at the beginning), and leaves Emerald practically alone.

Emerald does go to live with her grandparents, her mother’s parents.  They’re good people, but kind of oblivious and extremely religious.  I commend Emerald for going on after her mom’s suicide, I really do.  She can’t keep a job, but hey, at least she tries.  Then one day working as a barista at Starbucks, she meets a good looking guy named Carter.  She also makes her first real friend, even if she doesn’t know it at the time, Sarah.   She notices that Sarah has a lot of really expensive things and learns that she works for an exclusive strip club.  Emerald ‘interviews’ there and the patrons love her.  And guess who she runs into.  Yep, Carter!  And on the side, Emerald has to attend court ordered AA meetings because she got in a little trouble.

So as you can see, Emerald’s been through hell.  But she is such a strong character for it.  Although she’s not always in the right, she definitely stands up for what she believes in.  And the confidence this girl has, can I have some?

She is definitely wary of Carter, and it takes her a long time to warm up to him.  And just when you think you know where the book is going, you don’t.  I’d normally be a bit peeved at a cliffhanger ending, but I really can’t wait to read the next one!

It’s because it’s not all puppies and rainbows that I really enjoyed this book, and I definitely recommend it.  And if you read it, read the author’s note at the end.  It cracked me up.

“I can’t take it! I’ve been craving you ever since I saw you the other day. I haven’t stopped thinking about you since you disappeared ten years ago! I need you Steph. I’m sorry…” -Eric Sutherland

Stephanie Wilcox never saw it coming after giving up that life ten years ago of constantly being verbally and emotionally abused by her drunken father. She didn’t run, but when she left, she never looked back. Forced by her abusive father to live with her Aunt Elizabeth, she had to leave behind the one person that had shown her true love. In her mind, Eric Sutherland, deserved so much more and being with her would only bring him down. She never stopped loving the sun-kissed boy who held her hand and touched her kindly.

It was years later when Stephanie met Travis Barnes, a young self-made billionaire who swooped in and helped mend some of her loneliness. However, after marrying Travis, he began to show who he really was and he was the type of man she was accustomed to, after growing up with an abusive father, and regardless of his flaws she still loves him. After all, why would she deserve any better?

Eric broke, his kindness, his pure heart, it all fell apart that day Stephanie left. He did all he could to reach her, but it was hopeless. All the sadness, anger, and sorrow built up inside him over time and no one could replace the love he had for Stephanie. Fighting has been his outlet and now as a well-known UFC undefeated fighter, his career is all he has, but no matter how hard he tries to forget her, he can’t.

Ten years later he comes face to face with those large brown eyes that belong to the one girl he’s always loved and everything changes. This time he won’t let her get away.

About the Author

There are many versions of ME. I’m a wife of an amazingly supportive husband, a mother of three beautiful boys that inspire me every day, a friend, a dedicated worker always looking to succeed, an author with characters and stories always on my mind and then there is Me. The woman that loves to stay up late and sleep in, takes ten minutes every morning before the kids are up to sit and have a quiet cup of coffee. The woman that loves staying up late with a good book and getting lost in the words. Enjoying a glass of wine with dinner to wind down from my long days. A person who is still a girl at heart, loving to smile, laugh and have fun whenever the opportunity arises. My favorite place is still the beach because nothing is more peaceful then listening to the sounds of the ocean against the shore. This is all a part of who I am and I LOVE being me!

Excerpt

~ Eric Sutherland and Stephanie Wilcox encounter each other again after ten years ~

As I push through the crowded sidewalks I come to a tent that has a table filled with what looks like a variety of candies. It’s not often I get to eat sweets so I take advantage of this moment. I step up to the white clothed table and peer at the caramel sweets that are in front of me. I look up to see a larger lady with blonde hair that’s tightly pulled back.

“Is this caramel?”

“Yes. It’s our specialty,” the woman replies smiling.

“Can I get two pieces?”

“Of course. That will be $2.50.”

I pull my money from my purse as the lady grabs the two small squares placing them in a napkin and handing them to me. As I turn around placing one of the small bites in my mouth the flavor explodes and I close my eyes savoring it. The caramel is smooth and melts on my tongue. I start walking and place the second piece in my mouth enjoying every bit of flavor. Stopping at a water fountain nearby I bend down taking a sip of the ice cold liquid.

“Stephanie Wilcox?”

I hear a deep voice call from behind me and I turn, wiping the water from my mouth as I look into a pair of brilliant green eyes and I blink a few times unsure if what I’m seeing is real; the man from my past standing right in front of me.

“Stephanie Wilcox?” the man asks again and I almost choke on my own spit as I’m barely able to respond, still in shock.

“Eric? Yeah! I mean it’s Stephanie Barnes now.” Right as it comes out of my mouth I want to take it back. Eric Sutherland’s standing right in front of me. Do I want him to know I’m married? What the hell is he doing here?

“Well, Mrs. Barnes. You look incredible! It’s been so long.” He looks down at me and then almost like old times wraps his arms around me pulling me in for a hug and I take in the smell of his cologne and the feel of my cheek against his hard chest. He’s taller and broader then when we were kids. Still in shock I have no idea what to say, I hug him back and smile. But too quickly the smile leaves me and I’m faced with real life. There is no point in getting all excited about seeing him.

Escaping Reality Review

Amy is at a work function when she is in the restroom.  She leaves the stall to find an envelope taped to the mirror.  She’s in danger and has to run, again.  She heads for a new life, with a new identity, and not for the first time.  Not that she’s happy about it, but she has no choice.  On the plane to her next destination, Amy meets Liam, a billionaire architect.  He takes a deep interest in her and the interest is reciprocated.  But anyone in Amy’s life is in danger and Liam will be too if she decides to pursue the relationship.

This book is such a ride and I didn’t want to get off.  I pulled out my kindle to look for any highlights for this review, but I must have been too involved in the story because I didn’t add any!

The book starts out as I previously stated, with Amy running.  From what, I still don’t know!  And the people behind the note telling her that she is in danger and has to run; still don’t know who they are!  Whoever they are, they set up Amy’s new life and identity for her.  Amy is wary of this, the fact that she doesn’t know them at all, but they’ve kept her safe in the past, so she follows their instructions.  She does get more bothered by the fact that she must be being watched after she runs this time though.

This book was seriously a great read.  However I wasn’t expecting it to be an erotica book, which is almost felt like it bordered on.   I actually could have done with less sex scenes, not that they were written bad, cause they weren’t, but the suspense part of the book was fantastic.

I’ve already put the next book in the series, Infinite Possibilities, on my to-be-read list.  And you will too if you read Escaping Reality because it’s a cliffhanger ending.

Elect (Eagle Elite #2) Review

Title:  Elect (Eagle Elite #2)

Author:  Rachel Van Dyken

Genre:  New Adult, Romance

This is the second book in a series.  So if you like to be totally surprised, go read Elite first.  You can see my review on Elite here.

Trace’s grandfather is in hiding for killing the De Lange leader.  Nixon has to figure out if the De Lange family was behind Trace’s parents’ murder, and he needs to find out fast.  One of the original Sicilian families has come over to investigate the death of the De Lange leader, and they want Trace’s grandfather to pay; a life for a life.  Nixon needs to work fast to save Trace’s grandfather, but he also needs to keep Trace under protection, keep their relationship a secret.  So Nixon and Chase do the only thing they can think of, have Chase who is already acting as Trace’s bodyguard also act as her boyfriend.  Will Nixon’s plan have a happy ever after or will Trace forget about Nixon, and fall in love with Chase?

Warning:  once you read the prologue you’re not going to want to stop.  Elect is a continuation of Elite.  The only thing that’s different is that the story is told through Chase’s and Nixon’s point of view instead of Trace’s.  I normally am partial to the female’s point of view, but I still thought this was a great book.

I love to be surprised when I read a book, so I hope I’m not giving too much away.  As you can probably guess there ends up being a sort of love triangle with Nixon, Trace, and Chase.  That’s all I’ll say about that.  🙂

The one thing in the story that didn’t feel real to me was how the characters acted like carrying a gun, beating people up, etc, was no big deal.  But then when I thought about it, if that is the life that they grew up in, then maybe they are just so used to it and desensitized about it all by the time they are in college.

I have some go-to authors, and Rachel Van Dyken is becoming one of them.  She has an art for storytelling; she brings you into her world and you don’t want to leave.   I would definitely recommend Elect.

Elect is available to buy on December 10th, 2013.
